Speech Text: How to Get Successful in Job Interview

Assalamu ‘alaikum Wr. Wb.
The honorable judge of English Speech Contest, and all participants of English Speech Contest, good morning.
First of all, let’s thank to Allah The Almighty who has given us many mercies and blessing so we can join this program without any obstacles. Secondly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Muhammad Rozikin.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We, study in SMK, our main orientation is going to have a job after we graduate. Before going to work, we have to do some steps such as, writing application letter and after that, have a job interview.

So, ladies and gentlemen, in this opportunity I want to share about how to get successful in job interview. I summarize the tips from Get Along with English for third Grade of SMK and wikihow.com.  I call them P-E-E-R-D.
The first one, P, stands for preparation. Before going to an interview we have to prepare three things. Big company will contact us at least a month before the interview. So, we have times to do research about the company profile, especially about our major or department we apply for as much as possible. We can get the information in the company brochure or internet. Thus, we won’t be speechless if we are asked to talk a little bit about the company background.
Next preparation is getting help from others. We can find our own mentor or alumni who currently work on our desired career. We can ask them to give some advice or give some important information about it. Then, we must prepare with a peer. Find a friend who is also preparing a job interview, then we can practice for a job interview with him/her. We should prepare to answer some basic questions like, what are our strength and weaknesses, what does the company produce? Why do we want to work for the company? What will be our contribution after we work in the company, etc.
The second one, E, stands for eat well. We should take the time to nurture the body that will help concentration and mental balance. It will be better if we eat nutritious food the day and morning before interview. So, we can avoid something bad like stomachache or other things.
The next E, is for exercise. Beside eating nutritious food, exercise is also good for our mind and body. A kind of exercise that may give a competitive advantage is mental imagery, especially if nervousness is a prevalent problem in interview situations.
R is for rest. A greatly underappreciated part of interview preparation is sufficient rest. An applicant should avoid being physically or mentally exhausted to display the best performance. If travelling is involved to get to an interview, it is important to arrive early, so there is time to adjust and rest.
The last one is D. it stands for dress well. It is important for us to wear a formal, clean, and tidy dress when we have interview. Sometimes, there is also a corporate dress code. The information about dress code can be requested from the company’s Human Resources Department.
Ladies and gentlemen,
There is also some etiquette during the interview. First, we have to make a positive and professional first impression by being assertive and giving a firm handshake to each interviewer and addressing each interviewer by name as he or she introduced. Second, we have to reinforce our professionalism and ability to communicate effectively by speaking clearly. We must sell our self by telling our strengths. When we do interview, we have to turn off our hand phone to show our attention and professionalism. After we have done the interview, we must shake the interviewer’s hand and thank each interviewer by name.
Finally, let me summarize the tips to get succeed in job interview. They are P-E-E-R-D. P is for preparation, E is for eat well, the second E is for exercise, R is for rest, and D is for dress well.
Don’t let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning.” Thank you for your attention.

Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
